There are many others from our lectures and readings, naturally, so the ultimate selection here is up to you.
- Explicitly draw upon materials from our readings and films. I would like to see citations to at least four (4) readings and two (2) films in the final papers. Some of these citations can refer to the histories provided by writers like Joan Didion, D.J. Waldie, and the authors of the essays in LAtitudes. I posted my responds for some of the readings and my first essay. My professors comment on my essay “I’d love to know more about why California was the top choice of places for you to study. What did California mean to you and how did you come about that understanding? You do a good job here of getting at the positives and the negatives, the “sunshine and noir” version of California. Any ways to talk about that more in the revision? Isn’t it a paradox that the appeal of California has led to its congestion and pollution? What are we to do to keep the California Dream alive for future residents from all over the world?”
