HBP Case: IKEA Global Sourcing Challenge: Indian Rugs and Child Labor

1)With the documentary by a German filmmaker looming, Marianne Barner has choices to make and priorities to set. Which course of action do you think best? Why? What would you do if you were Marianne Barner? Comment of whether you think it would be best for IKEA to continue to deal with the issues through the relationship with its own suppliers, or step back and allow Rugmark to take the lead with respect to monitoring child labor practices or is the overall problem just too big for IKEA to deal with and they should withdraw from this market place?

2) Film: China Blue (Film begins around the 6 minute and 30 second mark)

China is undergoing an enormous transformation. While the issues raised in the film are eye opening and uncomfortable, more people in China have been lifted out of poverty during the past decade than anywhere else in the world.
