Last week topics included the concept of externality; One way to reduce negative externality of air pollution caused by burning fossil fuels to generate electricity is to use more and more windmill’s. In many areas large clusters of windmills is an efficient way to generate electricity. Does windmills eliminate pollution? They do eliminate one form of pollution but they also create visual pollution by distorting the natural beauty which people enjoy. What would happen if we build wind mills in a island (say, one of those Cape Cod island) that is very popular for tourists? Would tourists come to see wind mills or do they come to spend a quiet vacation in an calm unpolluted island? Thanks.
