Module 03 Course Project – Outline

By now you should have researched many of your resources for your persuasion paper. Project work continues this week with an outline, which is a general plan of the information that will be presented in your paper. This plan will help you guide your thoughts so that the paper ‘flows.’

Use the following example to organize and plan your presentation. In each of the headings (2 through 5), be sure to state facts, statistics, or other information specific to your selected topic.

Outline Example

1. Introduction
   1. Includes thesis and overall summary
2. Historical context
   1. Using scholarly research, provide a chronology of your topic.
3. Current use/relevance
   1. Using scholarly research, discuss the current context of your topic
4. Benefits
   1. Supported with research, discuss a benefit of your topic
   2. Supported with research, discuss another benefit of your topic (minimum of 2 required)
5. Drawbacks
   1. Supported with research, discuss a drawback of your topic
   2. Supported with research, discuss another drawback of your topic (minimum of 2 required)
6. Opinion
   1. Discuss your opinion of your topic, supported with research
7. Conclusion
   1. Reiterates thesis and final summation of focus of paper.

Module 03 Written Assignment – Gang Control

The National Gang Center Center is a collaborative effort between the Office of Justice Programs and the OJJDP. Go to their website, and review the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model. Review the 23-minute presentation called “OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model Online Overview.” Answer the following questions as an APA formatted essay:

1. Of the five core strategies presented in the model, which do you believe is most important and why?

1. Accurately assessing a gang problem is a crucial first step in effective intervention, as noted in the training module.
   • Where would you go to get the most accurate information regarding gang membership and activity in your community?
   • How would you deal with the stereotypes that are often portrayed by the media in your assessment?
2. The training module stresses the importance of combining prevention, intervention and suppression programs for the best outcomes.
   • Based on 100 percent, what percentage would you devote to each? Why?
   • Which of the three do you believe would be most effective in your community? Why?
