Good Afternoon Classmates,
I think Chick-Fil-A should utilize Facebook and Instagram as their business social media platforms to start. According to Kim, L. (2016, February 24), Chick-Fil-A is attempting to steal business away from McDonald’s by making their menu’s and atmosphere more friendly and inviting to the millennial mothers, aged 18 to 35 with young children. This would include allowing the mothers to go through the dive-thru to order their meals and then take their time to come in and get settled at a table already being prepared for them, this way the hassle of ordering and having menus everywhere is no longer needed, it’s called “Mom’s Valet”. I believe if Chick-Fil-A is targeting this market audience then they need to use what these individuals use quite possibly every day, Facebook and Instagram. Not only do these two social media avenues provide a means for family and friends to stay in touch, it offers advertisements and a way to “like” a company in order to get their name out there even more. They could even use these medias as a way to generate coupons. I personally have seen people sharing information on Facebook before about how a specific Chick-Fil-A in the city was offering to match anything you bought that day (on a later date) as long as you brought the receipt. Instagram also offers its users to like ads or pictures people (or companies) post. Word also gets spread around more on Instagram by creating and using a hashtag , for example if you search #Chick-Fil-A, you’d come up with all sorts of buzz people generated. I believe Facebook and Instagram already target the millennial age group, therefore Chick-Fil-A is only using what is common sense and already provided to catch the attention of so many.
Would I use Facebook and Instagram to inform, educate or entertain the target market? Absolutely! As stated in my last sentence above, these social media platforms are already designed to target the Millennial age range, with Instagram specifically targeting 35 and over for use of advertising various goods. I have chosen Instagram and Facebook for all of the reasons already stated above and the fact that these social media sites generate more than 2 billion users in more than 120 countries. Advertising in one or two areas where you can simultaneously reach more than 2 billion viewers will certainly catch the attention of new, or even returning customers. Being from California, I never had Chick-Fil-A myself and then one popped up when I was stationed in San Diego but I didn’t think anything of it. Eventually when I got stationed here in San Antonio and heard SO MUCH about Chick-Fil-A everywhere I knew I had to try it and I must admit I feel like I missed out by not doing so earlier! Having seen it everywhere, including social media and people talking about it I would say that was the best advertising they could get.
