As we have learned during this term through the readings and assignments, there are many factors that go into someone becoming an effective leader. Leadership qualities are not something that we are born with but rather they are gleaned through observation, experience and study. Any good leader learns how to lead well largely through trial and error, mentoring and by having been led by either someone who is effective in bringing out the best in their people (“an effective leader”) or by a poor, ill-advised manager who neither motivates nor coaches their people (“an ineffective leader”).
The question then is “How do you define what makes someone a truly effective leader, one who inspires, motivates and lets those in their charge become the best that they can be? The answer can best be found by contrasting and comparing the attitudes and behaviors of a good vs. a bad leader.”
