Browsing the podcasts on iTunes or YouTube, listen to a few of Grammar Girl’s Quick and Dirty Tips series (grammar tips by Mignon Fogarty) or Money Girl’s series (financial advice by Laura Adams).

Your Task: Pick a Money Girl or Grammar Girl podcast that interests you. Listen to it, or obtain a transcript on the website and study it for its structure. Is it direct or indirect? Informative or persuasive? How is it presented? What style does the speaker adopt? Was it effective? What changes would you suggest?

Write an e-mail that discusses the podcast you analyzed. Send your email to me (……………………………..) by the due date. Send your response as an e-mail message, not as an attachment. Please use the proper format for a professional email as discussed in Chapter 7 of your textbook.

This assignment is worth 40 points. Your grade for this assignment will be based on the following criteria:

• 10 points – Appropriate subject line; Your subject line should contain your name, course, chapter number, and a phrase that is appropriate for the message you are sending. For example, if I am in the 8 am class and choose a podcast about making vacation plans, my subject line could be: Patsy Parker, Bus Comm Online, Chapter 7, Money Girl Vacation Advice

• 10 points – Correct format of a professional e-mail (see examples in your textbook)

• 20 points – Appropriate content and clear communication that achieves the objective of the assignment.
