Literature Review of Resources

After completing the Units 3 and 5 assignments, use the knowledge you gained from your findings to research the scholarly literature about older adults, their needs and wants, and their use of services and resources.

You should research services that work successfully for older adults, services that are used most by older adults, and where most of the services for older adults are located. Report on your findings, using academic support for your results. Your literature review needs to be in APA format. Use the Literature Review of Resources Scoring Guide to direct your work and strive to achieve the “distinguished” category for optimal points.

Directions

Locate 7–10 scholarly articles from the Capella library about needs of older adults and services provided to meet those needs. These articles should be from peer-reviewed journals. Avoid using Web sites, Wikipedia, and Web dictionaries for information.

Include the following in this literature review:

  • Examine resources for older adults that relate to daily activities, physical activities, social media, technology, managing health online, lifelong learning, volunteering, service support for caregivers, grief and loss support, adult day care, et cetera.
  • Compare strategic and operational planning theories and practices addressing social and cultural biases and discrimination of older adults from diverse populations (including employment practices, language, and cultural barriers to community and other resources).
  • Compare how needs of older adults are being met by resources and services across the aging spectrum and socioeconomic status.
  • Explain which services are most successful in meeting older adult needs, such as health disparities.

Submission Requirements

Summarize and analyze the articles in a 4–6-page paper. You will include this material, revising it as appropriate, as a section of your final project. Note: Think about which services from these findings will work best for the agency, program, or organization you are reporting on for your final project.

Written Communication: Exemplify master’s level critical thinking and analysis in your paper. Do not just present a summary of the readings. Objectively evaluate and report on the findings of your research materials and the readings from the course.

  • Write scholarly by making points that are logical, substantive, and relevant based on the presented evidence, as well as free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • Clearly identify in your paper where you are addressing each grading criterion or part of the assignment.
  • Create written communications that are respectful and appropriate to the purpose, context, and audience.
  • Apply the conventions of the APA style guide and format in written communications.
  • Generate communications that are clear, organized, concise, and use correct grammar and mechanics.
  • Your paper should be double spaced using Times New Roman, 12 point.
