This is an interesting look at the trend of the “gig economy” in sourcing talent. Have you heard of this/experienced this? In what ways might you apply this in your organization?
I never heard it called “gig economy”, but we have used this type of sourcing talent. When I was an Administrative Assistant for a luxury real estate company, the owner brought in an independent contractor that worked for Keller-Williams. He had a lot of great ideas, but these ideas stemmed from a different type of real estate out of Miami. We are a small resort town, so things didn’t work out the way they should have. We should have done more research and talked about this before spending money on a different collection of resource data and not to mention, the money spent on this particular professional. He was hard to get hold of to ask questions and out of five conference calls he was either late or missed them all together. The owner learned a valuable lesson on this and hopefully in the future, will make a better choice.
